The main parts
A servo system combines a motor, a drive, a feedback device and control logic. The controller requests a movement; the drive regulates electrical power to the motor. Feedback reports the measured motion so that the control system can respond to the difference between the requested and actual behaviour.
Where it fits in manufacturing
Controlled motion is useful in positioning axes, material handling and automated machinery. The motor is only one selection decision. Mechanical loading, transmission, feedback, communication and the operating environment also matter. A suitable drive and motor combination still needs application-specific commissioning.
How to read a product portfolio
Distinguish a servo motor from a servo drive and from a complete motion-control system. Companies may provide one or all of these. Use the manufacturer's documentation for compatible components and operating limits; this overview describes the function rather than a configuration procedure.
